The Bone and Joint Decade. Joint Motion 2000 - 2010

For your 206 bones and the joints that connect them.

How many bones did you move to arrive at this website? Assuming you used both hands to type in the address, you moved 54 bones in your hands and arms. Whether you are interested in bone and joint health in general, or are concerned about specific bones or joints that might be troubling you, the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation exists for you, and all of your 206 bones and their connecting joints.

The Foundation is Canada's only health charity dedicated solely to helping people build, maintain and restore their bone and joint health. We do this by raising and allocating funds for the research, education and care that help Canadians to live and move independently - longer and stronger.

Hip Hip Hooray! the Foundation's signature fundraising campaign was re-launched on September 21-25, 2011. The new format significantly reduced overhead, and will help ensure more of your dollars raised go towards the production and distribution of educational materials and resources for orthopaedic patients. THANK YOU to our surgeons, walkers, sponsors, donors and volunteers for helping to make this event a success! We would also like to thank our corporate sponsors: ParticipACTION, Synthes and Zimmer. Your contributions have helped raise more than $100,000 to date.

Did you know ...?

  • Bone and joint disorders are more common than any other long-term health problem.
  • Over 20 percent of Canadians - more than 6 million people - report having bone and joint health problems: arthritis, rheumatism, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, trauma injury or disease.
  • Bone and joint disorders cost the economy an estimated $17-billion per year in health resources and lost productivity.
  • Experts say that the number one thing you can to do prevent bone and joint disorders is to prevent injuries, which require care when they happen and pose more problems later in life.
